Projects - Circleville, Ohio
Project Type: Brownfield Redevelopment
Property Origin: Smurfit-Stone Mill
Redevelopment Plan & Progress
The Circleville, Ohio site is the second Smurfit-Stone paper mill purchased by Green Investment Group, Inc. (GIGI). In 2006, the company purchased 26 acres east of U.S. Route 23, in addition to 275 acres on other side of US 23.
Since GIGI purchased the property, environmental investigation has been completed, with remediation presently underway. GIGI is currently awaiting a “no further action” letter from the Ohio EPA on the 26 acres of land. GIGI recently received a $750,000 COAF Grant from the Ohio EPA for remediation of the 26 acres of land. The grant will be used to remediate contaminated soil from a backfilled area formerly used as part of the Ohio Erie Canal. After Phase II remediation, it is anticipated that approximately $3 million will have been invested in the site.
Green Investment Group is currently working to identify redevelopment opportunities for the Circleville, Ohio site that will be best suited to benefit the community in terms of economic viability and employment opportunities.
